# What Dose Peptide counts has a unit.

A number can look very sure of itself. We like to check the small print beside it: the unit, the people in the study and what actually changed.

## The little letters do a big job

mass

A milligram measures mass: how much of a substance there is. A millilitre measures volume: how much space a liquid takes up. Lose those letters and you've lost part of the amount.

But the letters can't do everything. We still need the substance name and setting. The [semaglutide reading](/semaglutide) keeps those details together, so a study amount doesn't wander off as advice.

Reading limit: A unit tells you what was measured. It cannot choose a treatment.

## Who took it, and how

route

“Into a vein” and “under the skin” aren't details to brush aside. They're different ways of giving a substance. The people in the study matter just as much.

An [early ipamorelin study used infusions into a vein in healthy men](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10496658/). A [tesamorelin trial measured fat around the organs in adults with HIV](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18057338/). Put those settings back into the sentence and the comparison looks quite different.

Reading limit: One group or route cannot stand in for another.

## A paper cannot pick your amount

use

A study tells us what researchers tested. It can't tell you what to begin, increase or keep taking. Those decisions need a licensed U.S. clinician who can assess your health.

FDA-approved medicines exist for semaglutide and tirzepatide. [Compounded medicines are not FDA-approved](https://www.fda.gov/drugs/human-drug-compounding/compounding-and-fda-questions-and-answers). A familiar ingredient name doesn't change that. There's no calculator here; arithmetic can't fill in a medical history.

Reading limit: Understanding a reported amount and deciding on personal treatment are separate jobs.

## Keep an eye on the clock

time

Did something change during treatment, or did it stay changed afterward? That's worth knowing. In [tesamorelin follow-up research in adults with HIV and extra abdominal fat, fat around the organs built up again after treatment stopped](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18690162/).

A headline can lose that last part easily. Keeping the time beside the finding helps us see what “it changed” actually means.

Reading limit: A result during treatment does not prove the effect lasts after stopping.

## What changed is the point

change

A hormone rise, a scan result and weight loss answer different questions. Calling all three “results” doesn't make them interchangeable. Our [comparison page](/compare) helps sort them out.

Follow the question that brought you here. The [source shelf](/references) has the papers and labels behind the explanations. Knowing what a finding can tell you is the useful part.

Reading limit: A study average describes a group. It does not predict your experience.
